Dr Chitra Perera
Dr Chitra Perera is a specialist in General Practice and obtained her fellowships in the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FRCRRM Non-Financial).
She has been practising in regional Victoria for 28 years and was the principal General Practitioner at her practice for 25 years in Morwell, Victoria. Dr Perera has a special interest in Women’s Health and. Obstetric care. She obtained dual Master’s degrees, a Master of Medicine in Women’s Health (The University of Melbourne) and a Master of Family Medicine clinical (Monash University).
She has additional qualifications in the field of Women’s Health including a Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine specialising in menopause (Monash University), a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Royal Australian College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology) and has completed a Family Planning Certificate from Monash University and Family Planning Victoria. These qualifications supplement her vast clinical experience in shared antenatal care, menopause, family planning and Implanon insertion and removal. Dr Perera has been practising travel medicine, Chronic Disease Management and performing minor procedures such as removal of small lesions and cryotherapy.
Dr Perera takes pride in her prior roles as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne and her involvement in teaching final-year medical students through the University of Melbourne and Monash University over the last twenty years. She has been supervising GP registrars. Dr Perera is an Australian Medical Council Examinations examiner and an RACPG examiner for fellowship examinations.
